One thing I constantly fail at: Asking for help.
I don’t know if it’s my pride, lack of forethought or stupidity, but I always ask for help way too late in the game.
My most recent reminder was during preparation for A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Which went swimmingly, by the way) – I attempted to take care of casting, rehearsals, feeding the students, set construction, lights, sound costumes, print material and publicity all on my own.
As a result, a week before the show we were absolutely not ready to perform. It wasn’t until I swallowed my pride, asked for an extension on our performance date and asked for help that anything was accomplished. And I made some great relationships in the process.
Why would I ever try it any other way?
